• FM to attend Med Group ministerial meeting in Paris

    Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides leaves on Thursday for Paris to attend the second ministerial meeting of the Med Group, that was set up at Kasoulides` initiative and constitutes an informal group for coordination and deliberations among the seven Mediterranean EU member sates on issues of common interest.

    According to an official press release issued here today, Med Group will discuss among others the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean focusing on developments in Syria, Iraq and Libya as well as the crisis in Ukraine.

    The Foreign Ministers will exchange views aiming at determining join positions regarding the reviewing of the European Neighbourhood Policy and the best use of the available sources, as well as the aims of the forthcoming Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Riga, Latvia, on May 21-22.

    A working lunch will also take place, in the presence of “Anna Lindh” Institution Chairwoman Elizabeth Guigou and the General Secretary of the Union for the Mediterranean Fathallah Sigilmassi, during which cultural dialogue and the promotion of tolerance and cooperation to the benefit of young people, as well as challenges regarding climate changes will be discussed.

    The ministerial meeting will be attended by the Foreign Ministers of Greece, France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Cyprus as well as by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

    The Foreign Minister will return to Cyprus on February 21.
