• Romania’s Marincu becomes European junior long-jump champion

Romanian athlete Florentina Marincu on Sunday won the gold medal at the European Athletic Junior Championships Eskilstuna 2015 in Sweden for a 6.78-m jump that added to her bronze medal two days previously in the triple-jump event, additional proof of the special talent of the athlete who hails from Deva and who is already a bronze medalist in the European senior indoor athletics championship.

The silver went to Anna Buehler of Germany (6.55 m), while the bronze went to Spain’s Diame (6.55 m).

In the competition at Eskilstuna, the wind was perfect, just 3-4 m/s, which helped Florentina Marincu start off with a 6.34-m jump and continue with a 6.78-m jump, then 6.58 m, 6.51 m, after which, having secured victory, she stopped so that she will not push herself unnecessarily in a season that started with the first month of the year.

A member of the Cetate Deva National Sports Club, where she is coached by Nicolae Alexe, Florentina Marincu has been on a constant and natural rising path from her two world titles at the 8th IAAF World Youth Athletics Championships in Donetsk to her latest European title doubled by the silver medal in the triple-jump event on Friday. She also managed to surge in the age category, winning bronze at the Prague 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships for a new European junior record — 6.79 m. More…
