• First edition of Theaterstock International Bacau ends to critical, public acclaim

    “Faust III,” produced by the Antagon Theater AKTion company of Germany and “Pedaleando hacia el cielo” (Pedalling to the Skies) mounted on Sunday night by the Theater Tol company of Belgium in the Street Art Performance section, concluded the 1st edition of the Theaterstock International Bacau 2015 festival, organised August 1-16, by the Bacovia Municipal Theatre House in partnership with the local administration and commercial companies.

    The performing arts and urban-art festival offered more than 300 hours of stage performances as well as 16 concerts of rock, fado and flamenco music, and four drama and dance shows, in 23 venues.

    There were nearly 1,000 artists from 94 companies hailing from France, Spain, Germany, Italy, the UK, Canada, Hungary, Serbia, Israel, Portugal, Belgium, the Netherlands, Moldova and Romania performing in the event. More…

  • Former Interior Minister Gabriel Berca detained; taken to the Bacau County Police Inspectorate holding center

    Former Interior Minister Gabriel Berca, detained on Thursday by prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) – the Bacau branch, was taken out of the DNA regional headquarters and moved to the holding center of the Bacau County Police Inspectorate.

    Upon exiting the headquarters, Berca made no statements.

    Former Interior Minister Gabriel Berca is being investigated by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) for having allegedly demanded in 2012, via a third person, 180,000 euros in instalments to use his personal influence with members of the Government for the allocation of funds to a mayoralty, judicial sources have told AGERPRES.

    The sources say Berca, via Mihai Banu, back then an MP, demanded and received for self and his party more than 180,000 euros in several instalments. More…

  • 70 crews set out in first round of National Offroading Championship, the Free Dacians Trophy

    70 crews took to the start line of the first round of the National Offroading Championship, the Free Dacians Trophy, a competition hosted by the Slanic Moldova resort that was organized under the banner of the Romanian Sports Driving Federation and the National Offroading Commission of Romania.

    “Offering the possibility to as many enthusiasts and tourists to take part, for three days, in the challenges of offroading, the Free Dacians Trophy featured courses for the Extreme, Open and Standard classes but also a special class, Hobby, dedicated to those who have 4×4 vehicles in commercial form, but have not yet tested the vehicle’s performance in a competition, the class registering, much to our surprise, 15 crews,” said, on Monday evening, for AGERPRES, Romeo Andries, the director of the competition.

    According to him, “in accordance with the title of the trophy [e.n. — referencing the ancient Dacian people who did not come under Roman rule], the competitors proved powerful and daring, proving both skill and intelligence in driving their vehicles on extremely difficult courses in areas with no road signage or through the waters of the Slanic river.” More…
