• Paragliding championship “Sarajevo Open Air 2016” on Mt Bjelašnica

    paraglajdingSARAJEVO, August 18 (FENA) – The Olympic mountain Bjelašnica will from 19 to 21 August will be a host the International Paragliding Championship “Sarajevo Open Air 2016” with a large number of participants from BiH and countries in the region.

    The organizer of the competition is “Extreme Sports Club” from Sarajevo, which has implemented a number of successful competitions earlier, including the World Cup in precise paraglider landing on the target in 2013, which was declared by the FAI (World Air Sports Federation) as one of the best organized world competitions in precise paraglider landing.

    “We invite all citizens to come to Babin do on Mt Bjelašnica, learn more about this attractive sport, and experience a bit of adrenaline watching the paragliding pilots and their skills while trying to achieve best results. Weather forecast for the weekend promises good weather with perfect direction and power of wind, which gives great conditions for successfully maintaining of the competition and to have a good time in fresh air,” said the organizers.

  • The top five of Cyprus championship achieved victories in the match day 15

    The first five teams of the Cyprus championship achieved victories in the match day 15 and as a result the standings kin the top remained unchanged.

    AEK beat Doxa with 2-0, Anorthosis defeated Nea Salamina with 2-1, APOEL achieved an away win against Pafos FC with 1-0 and Apollon beat Paralimni with 2-1.

    The resutlts of matchday 14 are as follows:

  • U20 European Beach Volleyball Championship kicks off today

    U20 European Beach Volleyball Championship kicks off today on Finikoudes Beach in Larnaca, on the south east coast of Cyprus.

    A total of 32 teams from 33 European countries participate in the Championship the organization of which was assigned to the Cyprus Volleyball Federation by the European Volleyball Federation (CEV).

    The Championship to be completed on 5 September is co-organized by the Cyprus Volleyball Federation and Larnaca Municipality with the cooperation and support of the Cyprus Sports Organisation.

    Cyprus Volleyball Federation Technical Director George Stefanides told CNA that Cyprus as a host country participates in the games with a total of six groups and expressed the hope that our athletes would try their best to get good results.

  • Romania’s Marincu becomes European junior long-jump champion

    Romanian athlete Florentina Marincu on Sunday won the gold medal at the European Athletic Junior Championships Eskilstuna 2015 in Sweden for a 6.78-m jump that added to her bronze medal two days previously in the triple-jump event, additional proof of the special talent of the athlete who hails from Deva and who is already a bronze medalist in the European senior indoor athletics championship.

    The silver went to Anna Buehler of Germany (6.55 m), while the bronze went to Spain’s Diame (6.55 m).

    In the competition at Eskilstuna, the wind was perfect, just 3-4 m/s, which helped Florentina Marincu start off with a 6.34-m jump and continue with a 6.78-m jump, then 6.58 m, 6.51 m, after which, having secured victory, she stopped so that she will not push herself unnecessarily in a season that started with the first month of the year.

    A member of the Cetate Deva National Sports Club, where she is coached by Nicolae Alexe, Florentina Marincu has been on a constant and natural rising path from her two world titles at the 8th IAAF World Youth Athletics Championships in Donetsk to her latest European title doubled by the silver medal in the triple-jump event on Friday.   • 70 crews set out in first round of National Offroading Championship, the Free Dacians Trophy

    70 crews took to the start line of the first round of the National Offroading Championship, the Free Dacians Trophy, a competition hosted by the Slanic Moldova resort that was organized under the banner of the Romanian Sports Driving Federation and the National Offroading Commission of Romania.

    “Offering the possibility to as many enthusiasts and tourists to take part, for three days, in the challenges of offroading, the Free Dacians Trophy featured courses for the Extreme, Open and Standard classes but also a special class, Hobby, dedicated to those who have 4×4 vehicles in commercial form, but have not yet tested the vehicle’s performance in a competition, the class registering, much to our surprise, 15 crews,” said, on Monday evening, for AGERPRES, Romeo Andries, the director of the competition.

    According to him, “in accordance with the title of the trophy [e.n. — referencing the ancient Dacian people who did not come under Roman rule], the competitors proved powerful and daring, proving both skill and intelligence in driving their vehicles on extremely difficult courses in areas with no road signage or through the waters of the Slanic river.” More…
